Sharon Abdullah
Sharon Yong Abdullah is self-thought Malaysian Artist, born in 1977 in Sabah, East Malaysia.
Although born in Malaysia, she lived most of her life in Australia where she studied Finance and was working as a banker for many years, before becoming a full-time painter.
With a passion for creativity and a dedication to helping others through art, her diverse contributions have impacted on the artistic and therapeutic communities through charities like “ANGSANAcare”, an art and music therapy for the recovering patients, co-founded an organization to improve the wellbeing of individuals and helped countless people to discover healing and personal growth through artistic expression as well as supporting Amirs Therapy Gym.
Exhibitions & Achievements:
2017 – present, setting up and running “The Meraki Art Studio” in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
2018 First Solo Exhibition at the Tea Bird Tea Gallery, 27 Jalan Telawi, Kuala Lumpur.
2019- 2020 illustrator of the children’s book Crowning Glory by author Sabrinah Morad and Park Adventures by author Zarina Parry, published in Kuala Lumpur and available in the major bookstores across Malaysia.
2020 participating at New Talent Exhibition in Sabah National Art Gallery, Kota Kinabalu.
2023 organizing and participating at co-curated exhibition under the name Art Rocks Us at TTDI, KEN Gallery, Kuala Lumpur.
Sharon loves painting magical and mystical beings, gardens, forests, floral abstracts, as well as the wonders of nature, infusing enchantment, and wonder. Hoping to transport viewers to otherworldly realms and celebrates the beauty and magic found in both the natural and supernatural worlds.
Art is her love and passion, she keeps running workshops at her Meraki Art Studio to adults and children since 2018 and collaborating with various companies, non-profit organizations, and institutions from art logo designs to facilitating a team building programs for companies and associations, like: NourishMe by Marisa and life coach Melissa Indot. She is passionate advocate for helping others and making a positive impact on the world. Through her journey, she discovered her purpose in inspiring and empowering people through art therapy.
From personal experiences, she loves to paint figurines with real expressions. To capture the emotions and nuances of her subjects, evoking genuine and heartfelt reactions from those who view her pieces. She has keen interest in people and different personalities and believes that every individual is a unique canvas of emotions and experiences, and with this fascination in human diversity enriches her artwork and interaction with others.
Sharon started painting abstracts as she finds its great for self-expression and its great therapeutic practice. She loves the outdoors, the sea, just being out in the nature is her constant source of inspiration for her work that incorporates the beauty, serenity and wonder of the natural world, allowing viewers to connect with the splendor of the environment through her mystical art pieces.
