Doris Puente
Born in Havana, Cuba. She studied Civil Construction and Architectural drawing at the Polytechnic Jose Marti in Havana, Cuba.
She is a Cuban self-taught, talented artist, abstract realist painter and art educator based in KL, Malaysia.
From a young age she felt a special attraction to everything related with art and it was not until after her teenage years than she started to paint regularly.
After her studies she focused on Contemporary dance as well and she got a diploma from the National Association of Contemporary Dance in Havana, Cuba. She started working as a dancer in 1996. She worked in various artistic companies and was part of the cast as a dancer at renowned entertainment centers and shows in Havana.
In 1999 she got a Spanish residence and moved to China with her husband. In the two years that she lived in China, she had the opportunity to know a little about the traditional arts of that country and she was amazed by the beauty of that ancient art. But it was not until a few years later that she was able to study and delve deeper into traditional Chinese art.
In 2002 she returned to Spain, Barcelona, and participated in various group exhibitions. She also collaborated in quick painting contests, urban art exhibitions, and photography contests.
In 2013 she moved to Houston, The United States and in 2017 she opened her own Art Sudio in the US where she provided classes and workshops for all ages. As an Art teacher she has a good command of several techniques such as: oil painting, watercolor, charcoal, ink, acrylic and others, but mixed media is her greatest passion.
In 2018 she moved again to Xiamen, China, while living there she studied Traditional Chinese Painting with well known Chinese painters and Calligraphers. This time she took advantage of this great opportunity and went deeper in this discipline. A long immersion in the art of traditional Chinese painting. It has been a very important link in her growth and development as an artist. Starting from zero and practicing Chinese Calligraphy every day for more than a year.
Her progress has been self-directed and enriched by venturing several mediums and unstoppable restlessness searching for sources of learning in contemporary art.
Doris has been able to display her work alongside other artists in various countries (Spain, Mexico, Malaysia).

Her subject matter are WOMEN and NATURE, that’s why her paintings are not just faces, they are stories and emotions captured in the spontaneous movement of the brush meeting the canvas or paper. They are the perfect expression of her inner energy. They are a journey through colors and textures dedicated to celebrating and praising beauty. Her sole objective is to use art to connect people in their aspirations and create energetic and spirited works to embrace the joys of life together. As she loves to say, “creating is her way to meditate while she is awake’.
She is also inspired by photography. For her a photo can capture a moment and make it last over time creating a special connection with the viewer. That’s why when she feels the magic of a photo she likes to try to reproduce it in her own way.
When she is not at her easel and with her canvas or papers she loves spending her free time dancing, doing yoga or traveling. Her family is her priority. She adores spending time whit her loved ones.
She is passionate about helping with her art by supporting and participating in fundraising Action Group of Refugees and The Breast Cancer Welfare Association in Malaysia.
