Alessia Dona

Alessia Dona is a largely self-taught Italian Artist, born in 1984 in Padua, not far from Venice.

She lived most of her life in Italy where she studied International Economics and Digital Marketing and worked as a fashion retail specialist for many years, before becoming a full-time painter.

Passionate about art from early age, even if life has taken her down different paths in the past, she has never abandoned her great passion, which continued alongside her career in fashion.

Though largely self-taught, her curiosity drove her to delve into a plethora of art courses. From the vibrant strokes of material painting and the raw emotions of abstract expressionism to the rhythmic dance of experimental calligraphy and the spontaneity of extemporaneous watercolors.

Every technique she mastered, she blended together, crafting artworks that resonate with profound significance.

Inspired by the world around her and all the sensations it offers, making art has always represented expression and freedom to her mind, which gradually switched to the mission of giving people positive energy and help them to live authentic and remarkable lives.

In 2019, she received her first commissions and soon after, birthed a collection of bookmarks reminiscent of the Japanese Omamori, in collaboration with the Italian stationery brand, Inchiostro and Paper.

2021 was a year of transformation. In the middle of the pandemic, she decided to give up everything and moved from Italy to Kuala Lumpur with her husband. This radical change, not just geographical, it was a deep, spiritual journey, amplifying her dedication to art.

The universe rewarded her courage in 2022 when Alice Chang, the visionary behind Lai Lai Art Gallery, saw the spark in her. She opened the doors to her debut at an International Art Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, alongside 26 other talented artists.

Bustling with ideas and with a passion for innovation, she creates abstract masterpieces using a medley of mediums, including acrylics, oil pastels, watercolors, and inks. She further incorporates collages, ingeniously integrating snippets from past artworks, materials recycled from everyday life and mementos from her travels.

Each piece she produces is a tapestry of emotion and significance. While her creative approach is fluid and instinctive, every element is thoughtfully placed. She firmly believe in transcending boundaries in art, and as such, she resist confining herself to any set parameters.

Her mantra is: free your mind, enjoy the unpredictable, embrace the imperfections and live an authentic life.
